Carried to a New World and Quickly Discarded

Currency and equipment list for the Lizard Lords of Zapotec setting.

Before the Hurricane Sky prevented the Spanish fleets from sailing back and forth from Cemanahuaca, they made regular shipments back and forth of men, supplies, and cash one way and looted antiquities the other. This "Reál System" will seem similar to us. It uses cents (a copper coin), escudos (a silver coin), and doubloons (a golden coin). Additionally, it uses pieces of eight or "bits", which are escudos cut into eighths, and quadroons, golden coins of double size.

100 cents = 40 bits = 5 escudo = 1/2 doubloon = 1/4 quadroon

A common laborer makes about 6 bits a day, 28 doubloons a year. The poorest king makes about a hundred times that.

Still in common use is the "Market System", preferred in more traditional settlements and those further from Spanish control. The Market System is essentially barter-based, but some goods are recognized as notable storehouses of value.

1/80 bundle of turquoise = ¼ bundle of feathers = 1 turquoise stone = 4 Tepoztli axes = 5 bundles of cacao = 7 1/4 Cuatchli mantles = 10 pairs of Quetzal tailfeathers = 100 fists of cacao = 143 cakes of rubber = 400 conch shells

A common laborer makes about 3 conch shells a day, 11 Tepoztli or 14 bundles of cacao or 1,100 conch shells a year. The poorest king makes about a hundred times that, which is to say 280 turquoise stones or 70 bundles of feathers or 2,030 Cuatchtli.

Equipment

Iron has been cursed and rusts to uselessness within about a week in Cemanahuaca, which is why it does not appear in this list. Obsidian weapons are fragile and score a critical hit on a 19-20. Blacksteel gets +1 to hit and damage and ignores DR. Assume arms and armor are highly decorated.
